The Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook

I mentioned this in last week's Friday Favorite's, but since then we have had time to use it a lot more! I asked our mother's helpers to pick a recipe (they chose banana pops), my daughter (she chose honey hunt cookies), and my son (he chose bear-y good macaroni).

The book itself is well designed, with bits and pieces scattered throughout to bring kids back to the idea that these are, in fact, the Berenstain Bears' own recipes. There's a cute prayer and some scripture in the back of the book, and in my opinion, that's the cherry on top!

All of the recipes are simple enough for kids to accomplish (with adult supervision), and ended up to be really tasty! I guess I didn't think kids cooking would be so yummy (I'm not kidding, the macaroni is the best EVER). My daughter, who is always in the kitchen with me, read the directions and made the cookies 100% on her own, with the exception of removing them from the oven. My son, who is three, stuck around for the majority of the cooking, needed lots of help, but still felt like he "made it".

The recipes are all pretty "normal" - sandwiches, quiche, cupcakes, etc., but all done in a way that engages children.

I love cookbooks, and I LOVE finding new ways to get my kids to be involved in the kitchen!
