Busy Mommy Smoothie!

I wish homeschooling was the golden ticket to having calm kids who eat all their veggies and clean up after themselves. Unfortunately, I find it makes life even MORE chaotic and disorganized! My kids are tired of me telling them to finish each part of every meal, I am making three meals a day in my house which means that there are a TON of dishes, and half of the time, breakfast is in the car on our way to one field trip or another. This is where a simple green smoothie has changed my way of life! I've been making this sucker the same way for 3 years, and it's not going anywhere! Here you go!

This is super simple, and can be frozen into ice cube molds for a quick re-blend on busier than normal busy days! This serves my family of 5.

Ingredients:
  • A few handfuls of "Green" - I use an organic kale medley from Sam's Club
  • 3 cups orange juice
  • 3 cups frozen tropical fruit medley (My store carries an organic strawberry, mango, pineapple mix)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt OR 1 banana
Directions:
  1. Blend greens and orange juice until no longer "pulpy" (about 30 sec)
  2. Add in fruit and blend to desired consistency
  3. Blend in yogurt or banana to add in an element of "creaminess"
There you have it! It couldn't be more simple. Just a couple of tips:

  • We choose a WHOLE milk unsweetened yogurt. This may seem opposite of what we've been taught about health, however, whole milk products are not broken down by chemical washes and processing to become half-fat, non-fat, etc, and is therefore the most natural option.
  • Pay attention to the fruit you are adding. Check out the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen.
  • If you aren't a fan of orange juice, sub another juice, but try to add in something tropical, as oranges, pineapple, mango, etc mask the flavor of the greens.

Look how many yummy healthy veggies are in this:

And they wouldn't suspect a thing!
